La Torre del Oro, junto al alminar almohade, la Giralda, es el monumento m\u00e1s representativo de Sevilla y a su vez la torre militar m\u00e1s famosa de todo el Islam, aunque a veces, su historia y sus leyendas, se han confundido. Pero vayamos por partes para no perdernos.<\/p>\n

Se empez\u00f3 a construir en \u00e9poca almohade, concretamente entre 1220 y 1221 durante el gobierno de Abu Yacub Yusuf y m\u00e1s tarde de su hijo Abu Yacub Yusuf al-Mansur. Es una torre dodecagonal (tiene doce lados), mide 36 metros de altura y era una torre albarrana, es decir, una torre de defensa perteneciente al espacio fortificado de la ciudad. \u00bfhas visto esas ventanitas finas que rodean la torre? Se llaman \u201csaeteras\u201d o \u201caspillera\u201d y serv\u00edan para disparar desde dentro flechas ante un ataque o invasi\u00f3n.<\/p>\n

Si nos fijamos bien, en la actualidad, la Torre del Oro cuenta con tres cuerpos. El m\u00e1s grueso y que sirve de base es el de \u00e9poca almohade, el segundo cuerpo se construy\u00f3 durante el reinado del rey cristiano Pedro I en el siglo XIV tambi\u00e9n con doce lados, y el tercer y \u00faltimo cuerpo que corona la torre, es cil\u00edndrico y fue realizado en 1760 por Sebasti\u00e1n Van der Borcht.<\/p>\n

\u00bfY sabes qu\u00e9 a lo largo de su historia, la torre ha tenido diversos usos y destinos? Pues s\u00ed. Aunque naci\u00f3 como un elemento defensivo del puerto de Sevilla en tiempo de los almohades, ha sido tambi\u00e9n capilla tras la reconquista, embarcadero para los reyes cristianos, prisi\u00f3n provisional, almac\u00e9n de p\u00f3lvora al inicio de la ocupaci\u00f3n francesa de la ciudad, almac\u00e9n de materiales tras el derribo de la muralla en 1822 y actualmente Museo Naval de la ciudad.<\/p>\n

Pero sin lugar a dudas, una de los mayores misterios referente a esta torre es su nombre: Torre del Oro. \u00bfPor qu\u00e9 este nombre? \u00bfA qu\u00e9 hace referencia concretamente? A lo largo de la historia, se fue creando toda una leyenda la cual dec\u00eda que todo el oro que ven\u00eda de Am\u00e9rica, era depositado aqu\u00ed. M\u00e1s tarde, tambi\u00e9n se lleg\u00f3 a afirmar, que la citada torre estuvo en tiempos de los musulmanes, revestida de una cer\u00e1mica dorada que con los rayos del sol, proyectaba destellos dorados. Lo cierto y verdad, es que el nombre es debido a un enlucido que ten\u00eda la torre de mortero de cal y paja prensada que reflejaba tonos dorados al contacto con el sol. Mucha historia para esta bajita y regordeta torre basti\u00f3n\u2026<\/p>\n
